The dubious character released his first album in 1997. The album is a collection of tasteless songs written for a community radio station in east-end Montreal. The poor customers he targets are delighted, but as they can’t afford to buy CDs, Mononc’ sells very few.

No matter, Mononc’ Setge hung in there, releasing two more albums in less than a year. And so, by dint of hard work, vaguely legal maneuvers and unbelievable luck, the uncle achieved unhoped-for success, which grew with each passing year. He now has no fewer than 12 studio albums to his name. His collaborations with metalheads Anonymus have been particularly fruitful, making him a respected figure among the unkempt bears of Quebec and even among some French-speaking Europeans.
